For some women, the house is the ideal place for a baby. A familiar environment that provides them with insurance and security, outside of a medical environment may cause stress and anxiety. Matter of conviction or convenience, or just the simplicity and tradition ... What is it really home delivery today.
How does a home birth?
Liberal midwife is the health professional who helps the mother to give birth at home. Home birth is obviously assisted by the spouse and the couple can also bring a doctor.

The delivery takes place like any normal delivery. In time, the midwife provides with some emergency equipment that would be needed in case of complications for both mother and baby: monitoring portable infusion, medication, ...

After childbirth, the midwife is a few hours to monitor the mother and baby.

It will make daily visits for a few days.

Medical consultation (doctor or gynecologist) is compulsory in the first week after delivery.

What are the risks of a home birth?
A home birth is often associated with a high mortality rate, according to the findings of health professionals. Some factors are taken into account and justify the challenge of gynecologists and obstetricians against this practice.

- Hygiene is called into question: the lack of sterile conditions, and the risk of infection is high for both mother and baby

- Monitoring is often done poorly, the advent of complications is not predictable complications are more difficult to control because of the lack of effective and appropriate equipment for surveillance and monitoring of all stages of the delivery

- The difficulty of moving to a hospital can be a problem in case of complications. Bleeding is the most feared complication because fatal. In this case, a cesarean section should be done urgently

Precautions to take. Tips
- Remember to register at the nearest maternity home in case of complications or change of mind.

- Provide rapid means of transport: contact ambulances ....

- Do not miss antenatal care to know and predict the mode of delivery, tracking settings, obstetric risks, ... In particular, the last two visits are required and pre anesthetic consultation motherhood

- Do not hesitate to ask the obstetrician on home birth

- The sessions of preparation for childbirth and prenatal visits with the liberal midwife attend the birth are advised

- Do not expect an epidural

- Organize and plan in advance the care of other children on the day of delivery (even at home or with friends, relatives, ...)

- Prepare in advance the materials and space for childbirth: the bed (waterproof mattress), the room, towels, sponges, bowls, candles, massage oils and relaxation, easy access to hot water ...

- Remember to visit the house to the midwife to give birth so she can learn the middle before the day of delivery (a few months or days)
