Homeopathy is superior to allopathy for the management of acute nasopharyngitis child

Taking care of homeopathic recurrent acute nasopharyngitis child performs better in terms of efficiency and quality of life of the parents, for a total comparable cost to Social Security, according to a study led by a French producer laboratory homeopathic and presented to the press specialties.
In France, the use of antibiotics in the treatment of recurrent acute nasopharyngitis in children is quite common despite its inappropriateness, this disease is not caused by bacteria.

With this in mind, a French company specialized in homeopathy wanted to know the management of acute nasopharyngitis in children 18 months to 4 years by homeopathic and non-homeopathic GPs, especially compared the efficacy, quality of life for parents and the cost of both types of care.

It has it conducted a survey of 135 physicians (73 homeopathic, allopathic 62) and 499 patients who had at least five episodes of nasopharyngitis in the six months prior to their inclusion in the study and consultant for the first time, for implementation of preventive and / or curative treatment, said Dr. Gerard Duru (University Claude Bernard Lyon 1).

It should nevertheless be noted that this study was in 2000, two years before the launch of the Health Insurance Fund of his major campaign on the proper use of antibiotics, which resulted in a decrease of 16% requirements of these drugs.

The authors observed a significant difference in the behavior of doctors, homeopaths prescribe preventive treatment in 82% of cases, against only 43% for allopathic. Homeopathic medicines accounted for three quarters of the drugs prescribed by homeopaths, trace elements tenth and antipyretics and antibiotics only 2.5 and 2.8% respectively.

In contrast, antibiotics accounted for over a quarter of the products prescribed by allopathic. Note nevertheless, the significant part of homeopathic medicines prescribed by allopathic, which reached 10.6% of the order, reported Dr. Christian Dubreuil (CHU Lyon-Sud).

According to the latter, the greater sensitivity of homeopathic prevention may explain the lower frequency of visits for an episode of nasopharyngitis during the 6 month follow-up, which involved 56% of children treated with homeopathy and 81% of those followed by an allopathic.

Similarly, children in care by a homeopath showed a lower number of infectious episodes (2.77 on average, against 3.83) and fewer infectious complications (1.40 against 1.77).

Moreover, the number of work stoppages parents was twice lower in the group "homeopathy" from the group "allopathy". However, no significant difference was found for the total cost to Social Security, it is about 100 euros in both cases, said Dr. Dubreuil, highlighting the higher cost of visits to the homeopath by compared to consultations with the allopathic, are often the first sector 2.

The authors conclude that "taking homeopathic care is a good preventive treatment," giving "better clinical outcomes, quality of life and fewer work stoppages in the parents."
