Hemorrhoids: more and more studies confirm the value of the technique Longo

More than 10,000 patients in France and more than 200,000 patients worldwide suffering from hemorrhoidal attacks were made through "technique Longo," or anal anopexie a much less painful than traditional technical hemorrhoidectomy using the traditional technique of Milligan and Morgan said Dr. Philippe Godeberge, mutual Montsouris Institute in Paris (XIV).
The Secretary General of the French National Society of colo-proctology (SNFCP), gave an update on the latest data on this technique during the conference in the preamble of colo-proctology convention held at the House of Chemistry in Paris.

This technique was introduced in France in 1998, is not to remove the hemorrhoids but to correct the prolapse (externalization) of internal hemorrhoids by making "a kind of lifting" in the anal canal, with "a kind circular stapler, "he said.

Several studies published in scientific journals now serve to highlight the many benefits that this technique compared to conventional process scheme, resulting in significant damage to the anal canal, causing severe pain and bleeding.

With the procedure developed by Dr. Antonio Longo "everything is done inside the anal canal, in an area that is not sensitive to pain," said Dr. Philippe Godeberge.

Postoperative pain is thus significantly reduced (between 1 and 3 on a visual analogue scale up to 10, against an average of 6.5 for technique and Milligan Morgan) and the absence of skin wound releases the need to perform post-operative wound care or home care.

Thus, the average length of stay is shorter (24 to 48 hours against 2 to 4 days), while the professional activity can be resumed more quickly (within one to two weeks, about half the recovery time needed for conventional hemorrhoidectomy).

Preservation of hemorrhoid can also preserve the fine incontinence, which involves the physiological structures.

One might think that this preservation could also promote symptomatic recovery, but in hindsight we have, it seems that the recurrence rate is comparable between the two surgical techniques, said Dr. Philippe Godeberge.

In France, nearly 450 physicians (nearly two-thirds of proctology, most of whom are gastroenterologists and visceral surgeons) anopexie rectal practice.

If you can learn from members of the French National Society of colo-proctology (listed on the website: www.snfcp.org) for physicians practicing this technique in France, however, requires that it does not apply to external hemorrhoids treatment, said the secretary of the learned society.

In addition, the hemorrhoidal disease is a mild illness, although painful, it should be noted that the implementation of treatment is decided that if it does not affect the risk of spontaneous prognosis, he insisted, referring eg possible increased risk of developing incontinence.
