What is inguinal hernia?

Inguinal hernia is rare in women and occurs more frequently in men (50 to 70 years) and children (usually one year before).

What are the causes and mechanisms?
Inguinal hernia may be congenital (usually in premature infants) or acquired. Inguinal hernia acquired is often secondary to a weakening or loosening of the abdominal muscle (especially in people smoking).
Some factors behind the development or increase in volume of a hernia. In general, every effort resulting in abdominal pressure can worsen the course:

- Lifting heavy objects (in the professional activities or during physical activity)
- Sudden and violent effort,
- Frequent constipation with abdominal thrust constant defecation,
- Overweight
- Some lung disease manifested by chronic cough effort and repetition,
- Diseases manifested by recurrent vomiting,
- The presence of ascites,
- Tumor of the prostate in men resulting in an effort abdominal thrust each urination.
