Crohn's disease: diet

During outbreaks, the food must be strictly low-residue and fiber. It is therefore advisable to avoid all raw or cooked vegetables, all cooked or raw fruit, whole grains (whole wheat flour).

Indeed, fiber-rich foods have the ability to increase the bowel and stool volume. The goal is to let the intestines rest and reduce any irritation.
However, food tolerance varies from one subject to another. Other foods may worsen the signs for some people like meat dairy products, fats cuites.Ce to do
Eating slowly
Chew food before swallowing
Drink water (more than 10 drinks per day)
Avoid chewing gum, sucking on candy
Avoid skipping meals
Prepare light meals and easy to digest
Split meals and spread over five or six taken in small quantities
Do not hesitate to check the nutritional information on food packages before eating

Foods to avoid
Fermented cheeses (Bleu d'Auvergne and Bresse, Roquefort, ...) and all fresh cheeses
Smoked meats, salty, fatty, sauce, flood, game, offal, tripe, kidneys, ...
Delicatessen
Fish sauce, fried, smoked, salted, dried, canned
Eggs cooked with fat (omelette, fried)
All fried foods, bacon, sour cream
Fresh bread, wholemeal bread, lentils, peas, potatoes
Sorbets and ice, jam, pastry cream, puff pastry
Soft drinks, fruit juices, wine and alcohol, tea, coffee, cocoa
Spices, sauces, mayonnaise, peppers, ...
All vegetables (raw or cooked), especially beans, cabbage, onions
And all citrus fruits raw or cooked

Strict diet without residue
Baked cheese or hard cheese (Gruyere, holland, county ...)
Lean meats, roasted or grilled lamb chops fat, poultry without the skin, tongue, brains
Lean ham
Crawfish, lobster, mussels, shrimp
Boiled egg, poached, hard
Butter, Margarine
Pasta, rice, semolina, vermicelli, tapioca, white flour
Honey, fruit pastes, sugar, biscuits, pastry cream without
Water
Salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla

General measures
Rest.

Increase the intake of vitamins (vitamin A, C, D, E, K, folic acid, vitamin B12), minerals (calcium, copper, magnesium, zinc, selenium), and especially iron.

Stop smoking: it has been shown that smoking cessation during flares of Crohn's disease can have a remission of signs.

Compensate for losses caused by diarrhea and vomiting by drinking enough water throughout the day.

Avoid taking Ibuprofen and Aspirin including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These drugs are harmful to the digestive mucosa, so they can aggravate the signs or even trigger an inflammatory flare.
