Biopsy of the stomach

Gastric biopsy is performed during an examination by gastroscopy.
It allows the removal of a small portion of the lining to check the pathology.

Endoscopic examination after local anesthesia is to examine the interior of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum with portions of the first device provided at its end with a light.

This allows direct examination to diagnose many diseases much more accurately.:
- Gastritis
- Stomach ulcers
- Stomach cancer
- Esophagitis
- Esophageal cancer
- Duodenal ulcer
- Specify the exact location of bleeding.
- Hiatal hernia

This device also allows, through a clip located at the end to take samples (BIOPSY) in the pathological examinations goal (the fragment removed will be examined under a microscope).

Significant progress has been achieved through the endoscope that can no longer allow non-visible areas.
The fiberscope, much more flexible, can examine all parts of the stomach and duodenum.

- This review is done without hospitalization. The patient should be fasting for 12 hours. (Without eating or drinking or smoking) The exam is not painful but somewhat unpleasant because it causes despite local anesthesia, some gag reflex. (Which can be avoided through regular and quiet breathing) Local anesthesia is done by absorbing gel Xylocaine or spraying this product.

- The patient lies on the left side, the introduction of the endoscope (which has a diameter of 9 to about 10 millimeters) is gradually and gently. The patient is asked to breathe deeply and calmly.

- The test takes 5 to 10 minutes, sometimes a little more if BIOPSY (qv) is made.

- The review is completed, the patient can go home immediately and lead a normal life.

- This review is safe, no monitoring is required after the examination, a small difficulty swallowing is possible for a few days.

Complications are quite exceptional:
There may be holes, bleeding, cardiovascular and respiratory disorders and infections, which may occur during the examination or a few days later.

In the end you should know that the regulations requires a perfect disinfection of the endoscope.
All accessories (eg biopsy forceps) is sterilized or discarded (disposables).
