Health care system : the French willing to increase their social contribution


Half of French would be willing to consider an increase of taxes and social security contributions or lower reimbursements to ensure the health system , says an Ipsos survey conducted for the group of general health clinics, presented at a press conference held in Paris
This is the second edition of the " societal observatory health and quality of care in France ." The survey was conducted face-to - face interviews with a representative sample of 967 people aged over 18 .

The questions focused on both the general perception of health system costs and financing of health and expectations of French in information .

Respondents are 28% to consider the need to reform the system in depth and 60% that the system should not be changed on a few aspects .

On costs, 69 % believe that care is expensive , especially dental care ( 94%) , optical (92%) , consultation with a specialist in the city ( 84%) examinations in a clinic (81% ) , surgery in a private clinic (80% ) and drugs ( 73%).

40% of participants, rates and fees mutual cost them more, 28% is the remaining amount for the same proportion , payroll taxes paid to the state.

In contrast , respondents underestimate very significantly the cost of a hospital day , the latter being evaluated averaged 498 euros , observed the Chief Operating Officer of Ipsos France , Brice Dyer .

The lack of security is considered as a serious problem that must be addressed urgently by 55 % of respondents and as a concern " important, but sometimes has a tendency to exaggerate " 41% of them. In addition, 52% think they are fraud and abuse of patients is increasing most significantly health spending , 46% citing mismanagement of the system and 41% of the aging population .

To ensure the health system , 31% would support an increase in government debt , 29% an increase of taxes and social contributions, and 22% lower repayments. They are 42% to declare their readiness to pay more payroll taxes to solve the deficit of social security , 42% receive lower refunds and 42% to work longer.
