How is Crohn's disease?

Crohn's disease evolves throughout life, alternating phases of relapses and remissions. The interval between attacks and their intensity varies from one individual to another.

However, Crohn's disease can cause serious complications:

Strictures are thickening of the bowel wall and can cause a narrowing of the bowel. This then results in an obstruction of the intestinal lumen with a risk of intestinal obstruction.

Anal fissures can bleed and cause severe pain, especially during defecation.
Inflammation of the mucous membranes can cause bleeding from the walls of the digestive tract. Ulcers of the colon are more likely to bleed. The bleeding is usually scarce but recurrent.
Other conditions associated with Crohn's disease
Crohn's disease may, in the long term, lead to other conditions:
Malnutrition is often due to loss of appetite. In addition, the inflammatory process increases the need for nutrients the body and thus promotes the lack of nutrients.
Growth retardation or failure to thrive in children is common in patients with Crohn's disease
Digestive hemorrhage repeatedly walls can cause a decrease in hemoglobin in the blood (anemia) associated with iron loss.
The spontaneous abortion during flares is common among pregnant women with the disease.
The risk of colon cancer is increased in patients with Crohn's disease.
Osteoporosis is a long term complication characterized by decreased bone strength by lack of calcium, phosphorus and many other minerals.
