Hyposomie
,
The decrease of smell is more common
than total loss of smell (anosmia see). This decrease or hyposmia, occurs
frequently during a CORYZA but be aware that any viral disease (eg influenza) can
cause a total loss of smell.
Any total loss of smell during a viral
illness must implement an antibiotic and steroid associated with B vitamin
therapy.
The hyposmia is common during
edematous rhinitis (vasomotor rhinitis or nasal polyposis).
Ozena or atrophic rhinitis, causes a
gradually hyposmia.
In case of head trauma with fracture
of the anterior floor of the skull, or in the case of simple concussion, loss
of smell can occur and should be treated in an emergency and in the same way as
the case of anosmia viral origin.
The gradual loss of smell may follow
