Other causes of cirrhosis
,
Although alcoholism and
hepatitis are the main causes of cirrhosis, many other diseases are the cause
of the liver disease.
The primary biliary cirrhosis
PBC is an autoimmune disease
characterized by the presence of a blockage in the flow channels of bile. The
cells are gradually destroyed by the natural defense system of the body.
In this form of cirrhosis, no
cause of alcoholism or chronic viral hepatitis are identified.
Autoimmune disease: a disease
characterized by excessive immune reaction vis-à-vis the tissues or cells
normally present in the body.
Bile: substance secreted by the
liver and transported to the duodenum to digest fat. The displacement of the
bile is through the bile ducts.
Autoimmune hepatitis
Autoimmune Hepatitis is an
inflammation of the liver secondary to an abnormality in the body's immunity.
Its cause is until today not
accurately determined. However, the trigger role of viruses is very likely.
Wilson's disease
Wilson's disease is a genetic
disease. It is characterized by excessive accumulation of copper in the body.
The liver and the nervous system are particularly affected; copper deposits are
toxic to these organs. The liver damage may progress to cirrhosis.
Wilson's disease can affect the
kidneys, bones, blood, eyes ....
The Budd-Chiari
The Budd-Chiari syndrome is a
liver disease characterized by obstruction of the hepatic veins. This
obstruction is due either
- The presence of blood clots
(thrombosis)
- The presence of tumor.
This obstruction causes a
disturbance in the venous drainage of the liver. This then results in an
alteration of several functions of the liver leading to cirrhosis.
Heart failure
Heart failure is defined as the
inability of the heart to function normally: the heart muscle can not ensure a
heart rate corresponding to the energy needs of the individual.
The right heart failure causes
heart liver. The progression to cirrhosis is possible.
The deficiency of alpha-1
antitrypsin
The alpha-1 anti-trypsin is a
protein secreted by the liver. This substance protects body tissues against the
harmful effects of enzymes released during inflammation or infection.
Decreased blood levels of
alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency can lead to disturbances in the liver can lead
to cirrhosis. The deficiency of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency is an inherited
genetic disorder.
CF
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic
disease. It is characterized by the secretion of abnormally thick, sticky mucus
and affects mainly the respiratory and digestive system.
In the liver, biliary tract and
the channels can be blocked by thick mucus resulting in impaired liver function
and progression to cirrhosis.
The
management of cystic fibrosis should be multidisciplinary
