Heart and wine

An epidemiological statistical study of several hundreds of thousands of cases seems to show that taking wine in moderation protects against coronary risk (1/2 liter of wine maximum per day).
It is known that the absorption of fats of animal origin is a factor of some coronary risk (see CHOLESTEROL).
In France, as in Switzerland, the high consumption of dairy products (ie animal fat) does not appear to increase coronary risk and it is possible that this is due to the consumption of wine in moderation.
Moderate consumption of wine or alcohol seems to reduce coronary risk nearly 50%, especially if this drink is making eating (thus slower absorption).
The use of alcohol inhibits platelet aggregation (see Coagulation), so would protect against the occurrence of a clot in the coronary arteries.
This cardioprotective effect is due to the presence of polyphenols in red wine
Red wine have also an inhibitory effect on the oxidation of LDL (bad cholesterol)
These LDL are more dangerous they are oxidized.

By cons, you should know that taking heavy alcohol may cause an adverse effect on platelets and promote their aggregation, which may explain the sudden coronary death in alcoholics.
