Infant feeding and allergic risk: recommendations
,
A summary prepared by European
experts allergies child again concludes the interest of breastfeeding in the
prevention of allergic diseases.
As the impact of diet in the primary
prevention of allergic diseases is the subject of much debate for several
decades, a group of experts from the Pediatric Section of the European Academy
of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) decided to review the various scientific
studies on this subject.
After conducting this analysis,
allergy specialists have concluded that breastfeeding is recommended for all
children, regardless of family history of atopy (that is to say, the
predisposition to develop reactions allergic).
The adoption of an appropriate diet
can prevent the occurrence of allergic diseases in the most at risk of developing
such disorders children. Thus, for these children, preventive as European
experts consider the most effective is to keep breastfeeding until at least the
age of 4 to 6 months, without introducing solid foods and avoiding contact of
infants with cow's milk.
If breastfeeding is not possible,
the European experts advocate the use of infant formula which has proven
hypoallergenic.
